Whim, located in Station Square, is one of Pittsburgh’s largest dance clubs. The crowd it attracts is primarily college students and singles in their early 20s, as Whim is the only venue on this list that is not exclusively for 21 and over. Every Thursday from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., the club showcases its college night specials. Guests 18 and over are admitted for a $10 cover and patrons 21 and over get in for $5. Thursday drink specials include $2 domestics and bottles of Smirnoff Vodka for $100. Friday and Saturday nights play host to dance music by resident DJs. Standard bottle service prices run from $150 to $500 for liter bottles of everything from Captain Morgan’s and Jim Beam to Dom Perignon. Since it’s inception, Whim was meant to go above and beyond what the average club goer would expect. Holding an impressive 1100 people, Whim was designed to hold the biggest parties Pittsburgh could offer. The largest nightclub in Pittsburgh had to have the largest sound, so we put in over 60,000 watts of JBL SRX powered sound audio. Our JBL system has been separated into the 3 types of sound; Bass, Mid-Range, and Treble through the use of subwoofers, hanging 12 inch and 15 inch speakers and individual hanging tweeter packs. We have done this so that the audio you hear is as accurately reproduced as possible. Our private VIP rooms also hold their own private sound system for your enjoyment. With the biggest sound comes the most lights and Whim’s lighting rig is second to none. Our installation houses 28 lights that power your emotions over our dance floor, and each light was designed for a concert type venue. Putting our lights into a nightclub is considered to be completely over the top! Our centerpiece is our one of a kind, 6 legged 30 foot diameter spider truss, which has been utilized to hold our brightest lights and command your attention throughout the night. All of the lights tie into our multi-touch screen and midi interface, which allows our lighting designers to give you countless displays and interactions. Our lighting system is not automatic like most clubs; we have full control via the DJ booth so that our designers and the DJ are in constant communication to tailor the lighting for each song.

Whim also houses the only double jet Kryogenifex system in the city, which puts out a nitrogen blast over the dance floor and cools it to 40 degrees within a matter of seconds! In addition to our special effects, Whim provides 5 full service bars, 21 indoor VIP sections and a few extra outside on our deck that overlook the city. To re-fuel yourself, the famous Lou Dogg hotdog, along with an assortment of other finger foods are available to you.
